Job interview tips
- Practice your answers to common interview questions.
Prepare your answer to the common question: “Tell me about yourself, and why are you interested in this role with our company?” The idea is to quickly communicate who you are and what value you will bring to the company.
- Keep your answers concise and focused.
Your time with each interviewer is limited so be mindful of rambling. Practicing your answers beforehand can help keep you focused.
- Win them over with your authenticity and positivity.
Being genuine during interview conversations can help employers easily relate to you. Showing positivity with a smile and upbeat body language can help keep the interview light and constructive.
- Tie your answers back to your skills and accomplishments.
With any question you answer, it is important that you tie your background to the job by providing examples of solutions and results you’ve achieved. Use every opportunity to address the requirements listed in the job description.

What’s a job interview
A job interview is a conversation which occurs between a potential employer and a job applicant. During the job interview, the employer hopes to determine whether or not the applicant is suitable for the job, while the applicant tries to learn more about the position while also impressing the employer. As a general rule, a job interview is an important part of the process of applying for a job, and it may range in formality from a casual conversation to a series of serious discussions with an assortment of people working within the company.

Among the many ironies of the so-called ‘real world’ is not getting the job when I knew I gave my best interview. For instance, there was this firm I really wanted to work for and I was thrilled to be invited to interview on two separate occasions, only to be rejected both times. I was devastated for the next 24 hours, but I got over it.

Every industry and position is different, so there isn’t a universal hiring season. However, many experts agree that the beginning of the year is a great time to look for a new position, for a range of reasons.
Many people reflect on their current roles and responsibilities at the end of the year and make resolutions to find new opportunities in the new year. When people leave for new endeavors, it creates even more job openings for applicants.
How far in advance to look for a job
One challenge of choosing the best time to look for a job is how far in advance to start searching. The ideal timing to start your new job search is one to three months in advance of your preferred employment start date. Two months is likely the best time to look for a job for the majority of professionals. One month may make you feel rushed, while three months could limit your prospects.

If you’ve been searching for a job for any serious amount of time, then you understand how difficult it can be to find a job these days. You might even wonder if you’re perhaps not as employable as you thought you were. Believe us when we tell you: you’re not alone.
If you’re feeling frustrated by your job search, consider taking a break. Frustration can lead to negative thinking, which can project onto applications and in interviews. Getting some distance from your job search can help clear your mind and refine your focus. Take some time to understand what you are looking for, what changes you can make, what available alternatives there are and start again.

For many struggling job seekers, the problem is as simple as their resumes. Employers are looking for resumes that stand out from the crowd, so those old, outdated resumes are not the best option these days.
When it comes to finding a job, successful candidates will have resumes that effectively showcase their value as employees. Unfortunately, many of today’s job seekers have no idea how to craft that type of resume!
For example, does your resume still rely on the objective statement to capture a hiring manager’s attention? If so, that could be a major mistake. Objective statements on a resume focus on what you want from your career, rather than how you can meet the employer’s needs.
Think about that for a second. If you were in that employer’s shoes, would that approach appeal to you? Chances are that you’d want to hear more about how that candidate can add value to your team, right?
